COTINA D'AMPEZZO
CALM AND WELL-BEING IN HAUTE SAVOIE
CORTINA D'AMPEZZO
THE MAJESTY OF THE DOLOMITES
THE PLACE

Often considered to be the most beautiful mountains in the Alps, the Dolomites have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 26 June 2009. This distinction is no doubt due in part to their ‘rosiness’: thanks to the minerals present in the rocks, at sunrise and sunset the rays set the Dolomites ablaze, giving them a phenomenal range of colours, from pale pink to bright red. The natural architecture of the mountains, their unparalleled aesthetics and their geological composition are also the reasons for their classification.
This is the setting for the Dolomites d’Ampezzo Natural Park, home to some of the highest and most prestigious mountain ranges: Cristallo, Tofane, Cime Fanes, Col Bechei and Croda Rossa.
And the Dolomites are home to another jewel: Cortina d’Ampezzo, Queen of the Dolomites, just a 2-hour drive from Venice! Surrounded by this mountain range of unique splendour, the village of 6,000 inhabitants, which is popular in both winter and summer, shines brightly green in fine weather and is packed with activities to discover. It’s Italy’s best-known resort and a leading sports town. But make no mistake: of course you can also experience the sweetest Dolce Vita here!

ACTIVITIES

Trail running in the splendour of the Dolomites
Accompanied by a guide who will lead you along the best itineraries suited to your level, trail running will allow you to discover iconic places: high plateaus, hidden valleys, mystical forests… It’s impossible to miss out on this discipline, which is so popular here, thanks to the hosting of numerous international competitions such as the Lavaredo Ultra Trail and the Short Delicious Trail. You’ll be lucky enough to find yourself at the foot of the fabulous Cinque Torri, and that’s priceless!

Discovering the city centre
Cortina’s pedestrian-only town centre is a lovely walk with a very friendly atmosphere. Chic shops, numerous sports and outdoor activities outlets, a few terraces for an aperitif in the heart of the streets… it’s a must-see when you’re here!
To add a little culture to your stay, the town has several museums, including the Ethnographic Museum, the Palaeontological Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.

Terraces at the top
If you feel the call of the summits but don’t particularly want to walk, simply take the ski lifts to reach the heights without tiring yourself out, while taking in the sights.
The Faloria cable car, for example, takes you to the Rifugio Faloria for a lunch with a view, while the Freccia nel Cielo cable car on the other side of town takes you to the Col de Druscié. Whatever your destination, the views of both the valley and the surrounding peaks are well worth the trip.
Hiking, walking for miles...
With more than 400 km of routes to suit all levels of walker, Cortina is a paradise for mountain hikers. Most of the routes are accessible from the village via the ski lifts, and during the day you can stop off at the high-altitude refuges for a well-deserved gourmet break based on local produce.
There are plenty of themed walks: alpine lakes, waterfalls, history and legends… so you can discover the region’s most iconic spots as well as its lesser-known nuggets. The Gorges et Lac de Federa, for example, is an excellent idea for a hike to discover an incredible variety of landscapes, on an easy route of just over 16 km.

Cycling in all its forms
On the roads to Cortina, take on the Dolomites passes, often crossed during stages of the Giro d’Italia.
Those who prefer a more leisurely ride will be delighted by the Lunga Via delle Dolomiti, a cycle route that passes through a number of villages and follows the route of the old railway line. This gravel track runs from Cortina to Dobbiaco (30 kilometres, with a climb of 380 metres) and offers incredible views, including Lake Landro and the panorama of the Tre Cime.
The mountains and forests are the playground for mountain bikers and thrill-seekers!
A world to discover on both a classic and electric bike.
